Events in Mullion and the Lizard
Scarecrow Festival: 26th to 30th August 2021.
For the August bank holiday weekend, the village is overtaken by weird, wonderful, magnificent, funny and sometimes even scary scarecrows with is a different theme each year. To join in the trail over the weekend pick up an answer sheet from the Methodist Chapel, where there is always a fine display to get you on your way.
Mullion truly is idyllic over the festive period to be enjoyed by visitors and locals alike. The magic starts with the Carolaire at the Lizard Lifeboat station on a Friday evening, then the next night Mullion Village lights up. A wonderful evening begins with the turning on of the huge Christmas tree lights and the magical display throughout the village, this is accompanied by the village choir singing carols and a parade by Father Christmas giving sweets to the children. 202 saw an additional magnificent tree in memory of Mullion stalwart ‘Lively’ lit up by Atlantic Forge. There is mulled wine, food and Pure Bliss organise a Christmas market. The shops all join and decorate their windows with Savoy House always putting on a magical display. The Parish Church hosts the Christingle, when the children bring their decorated oranges.
The churches, clubs and pubs – look out for the Mounts Bay Inn Turkey Trot – all hold events in the run up to the big day. Boxing Day sees the village decamp to Poldhu Cove for a refreshing dip, with much needed warming mulled wine and hot chocolate given to the brave swimmers by Poldhu Café. Then its back to the pubs for some live music.
New Year’s Eve sees a mass fancy dress party, with revellers hitting the village pubs and football club in a wonderful array of costumes. On New Year’s Day, the pubs are full again with those nursing hangovers, getting some much-needed nourishment, enjoying the entertainment – or watching the day’s big matches at Mullion Football Club.
